MARK YOUR CALENDARS... The Hot Tamale web site is updated for 2013 and on-line registration is open!
Sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month is an opportunity to celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride. Whether you bike to work or school; to save money or time; to preserve your health or the environment; to explore your community or get to your destination, get involved in Bike Month in your city or state — and help get more people in your community out riding too!
May is also a good month to kick off the National Bike Challenge. Started in 2009, the Challenge is an exciting health and wellness initiative that encourages people (as individuals, part of a team, or as a business) to bike for transportation and recreation. In 2013, they aim to have 50,000 riders pedaling 20 million miles from May 1, 2013 until September 30, 2013. It is open and free to anyone who lives in the U.S. or works for an organization with U.S. employees.
When is Bike to Work Week and Day? In 2013, Bike to Work Week is May 13-17 and Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 17.
When is Bike to School Day? In 2013, Bike to School Day is May 8.

GOOD NEWS FOR BICYCLISTS IN THE MARION STAR... "The Ohio Department of Transportation could begin construction as early as next month on a project that would make improvements to a one-mile stretch of Ohio 95 East.
ODOT announced the tentative schedule Monday. The safety improvement project includes new turn lanes, upgraded signage, striping, resurfacing, wider shoulders, BIKE LANES and signal and drainage improvements from University Drive to Blevins Boulevard.
The department added the BIKE LANES and walkways to its plans in response to community concerns raised during an open house Jan. 31, 2012, at Tri-Rivers Career Center."
